  1. Spring Break Adventures Camp - Shawnee Mission School District (Ages 11-13)

    April 5, 2021 - April 9, 2021 @ Ernie Miller Nature Center

    Come explore wild areas, find long forgotten trails, and learn the secrets of survival. We will go canoeing, fishing, participate in team building and zip line at the challenge course at TimberRidge Adventure Center. Participants will need to bring a backpack with a nutritious sack lunch, water bottle, and comfortable all-weather clothing. The last day of camp we will have a cook out. Spring Break Adventures Camp will meet every morning at the Ernie Miller Nature Center. Programmed activities will begin at 9 am and conclude at 4 pm. For the convenience of working parents, supervision will be provided from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. Activities may vary due to weather conditions. Parents will receive a letter describing camp activities, a supply list, and a medical form which must be completed and returned one week prior to camp. Enrollment is limited to 13 campers.   2. Spring Break Discovery Camp - Shawnee Mission School District (Ages 6-10)

    April 5, 2021 - April 9, 2021 @ Ernie Miller Nature Center

    Take an adventure this spring break at Ernie Miller Nature Center. Meet critters big and small, hike in the fresh spring air, and create nature treats with newly found friends. Activities begin at 9 am and continue until 4 pm. For the convenience of working parents, supervision will be provided from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm daily. Children should bring a nutritious sack lunch, reusable water bottle, and drink. We provide a morning and afternoon snack. Parents will receive a letter describing camp activities, a supply list, and a medical form which must be completed and returned one week prior to camp. Enrollment is limited to 20 campers.   3. Hiking: Walk with a Naturalist (Ages 18 & Older)

    April 8, 2021, 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM @ Ernie Miller Park

    Moderate Difficulty Take a hike…. with a naturalist. Let’s meet at the Nature Center and hike to through the park. Join us for themed hikes as we explore the landscape for hidden gems in the park. Hikes will be easy(E) to moderate(M) in difficulty dependent on the theme. Dress for the weather and muddy conditions on the trail. For more information call (913) 826-2800. Advanced registration required. No walk-in admission. 1 – 1 ½ hr. sessions - $7 resident/ $8 non-resident Bird Bonanza (April 8): Moderate difficulty - Go on the search for migrating birds in the trees.

  1. Kid's Day Out (ages 5-10)

    April 8, 2021, 7:30 AM - 5:30 PM @ Arts & Heritage Center - Museum Classroom

    Come have fun when school is out! Discover history through hands-on activities and exploration of KidScape and museum exhibits, play games, and enjoy down time. Bring a lunch, snacks, and water bottle and dress for the weather - we will go outside if we can. We are open from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, but you may drop off and pick up at any time. 5 year old children can be enrolled if currently attending kindergarten. For program questions call the museum (913) 715-2570. *We require all participants to complete personal information forms for each child that we will keep for the school year. You will receive an email after registration with the form.*

  2. Whimsical Rubbish (Virtual)

    Artist Ben Hawkins takes everyday objects and makes art. He uses inanimate objects and puts them together to form personalities. These creations have faces and tell a story. Find out what inspires him to create! Program corresponds to the “Thrift Style” exhibition, on display through May 1. This program is offered free of charge.
