Your child will have the opportunity to use the universal language of music to increase social skills, dive into creativity, and even gain some basic math insight through dance and music. This is an introductory class that uses simple actions and dance movements with a focus on child-friendly music.

Clay provides an opportunity for problem-solving and creative thinking. Learn score and slip, how to use various clay tools, and apply glaze to a finished design. Beginning at age 9, students will be introduced to the potter’s wheel. *No class 9/21

The 1950s are out, and change is in the air! Hairspray JR. is the family-friendly musical piled bouffant-high with laughter, romance and deliriously tuneful songs. Adapted from the Broadway production that won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Hairspray JR. is a show that will celebrate your students' diversity and bring audiences to their feet with its positive message and uproarious sense of humor.
This production is an audition based program. Auditions will occur on Saturday, September 21st at the Johnson County Arts and Heritage Center. More info on how to sign up for auditions forthcoming. The show is cast within 48 hours and scripts and tracks are then sent out so that campers can familiarize themselves with the show before rehearsals start in December. The camp is geared towards 12-18 year olds and runs December 19th-29th with 12/24 and 12/25 off.
Tickets for Academy shows will go on sale approximately one week prior to the performance.

This course is a great follow up to our Pre-K Pre-Ballet course. Ballet shoes and leotard required. The final session will allow parents to observe the class.

Stop! Collaborate and listen! Students will explore the basic characteristics of Hip Hop as well as where the dance style originated from. This course will culminate in a choreographed routine performed for family and friends.

This course series explores creating drama among diverse populations. Pairing Pre-K Performing Artists with the youth, older adult, and the veteran community. The groups will work together in the form of creative storytelling, improv, and puppet making. Participants under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. September’s session will focus on puppet making.

Take a one-mile hike and visit stations along the way to earn your Fur, Feathers and Ferns Adventure. See some of the live nature center animals up-close and observe the wildlife in the park with binoculars. See a working compost bin and worm bin and learn about composting. Learn about extinct and endangered animals. Smell and taste herbs and plant an herb to take home. This educational event for ages 7-10 is $5 per person, $6 nonresidents, in advance or $8 on site day of event if space is available.
