Experience a guided tour of the Kansas City Star and learn how the paper makes its way to your front door. After lunch travel to the Walter Cronkite Memorial and take a look at some of the major events of the 20th century through the eyes of the CBS journalist Walter Cronkite. See a replica of the newsroom that Cronkite broadcast from for the CBS evening news in the 1960s and 1970s. Before heading home we stop for some delicious homemade pie and coffee.

Winter is a wonderful time for bird watching. Chickadees, woodpeckers, juncos, cardinals, and more can be seen busily eating at the feeders to warm their little bodies. Enjoy the comfy Wildlife Viewing Room at Ernie Miller Nature Center every Tuesday in January and February to sit, drink free coffee, and visit while watching our feathered friends. Collection sites are: the parking lot at The Theatre in the Park in Shawnee Mission Park, with a separate entrance at 7710 Renner Road, Shawnee; the Heritage Park Marina parking lot, 16050 Pflumm Road, Olathe; the north side of the parking lot at the marina at Kill Creek Park, 11670 Homestead Lane, Olathe; and new this year, Big Bull Creek Park, 20425 Sunflower Road, Edgerton.
Trees will be collected during regular winter park hours, which are 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., except at Shawnee Mission Park, which opens at 6 a.m. in the winter.
No yard waste will be accepted - only Christmas trees. Wrappers should be removed from the discarded trees as well as any remaining decorations; particularly "icicles" and decorations made from mylar, shiny plastic, or aluminum.
There is no charge for the disposal of trees and this program is open to anyone regardless of residency. For additional information, call Visitor Services at the JCPRD Administration Building in SMP at (913) 888-4713.

Through a cooperative effort between UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance, Meyer Music, and JCPRD, this band offers an opportunity to make music in a relaxed, learning atmosphere.
