To register by phone, call 913-831-3359. For all in-person programs, physical distancing and COVID-19 safe practices will be encouraged.

A reminder that while JCPRD’s 50 Plus programs are primarily for people who are age 50 or older, interested parties who have not yet reached that magic age may still be able to attend. Persons 18 and older who are interested in a 50 Plus class are invited to call the 50 Plus Department at 913-826-2975 for space availability.

Here's a sampling of programs JCPRD has coming up for the week of Dec. 12-18: 

Dec. 14 - Art: Clay Creations (Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Ages 6 to 12, 10 a.m. to noon., $20 per person, $22 nonresidents) - Come get creative and explore clay. Students will get the opportunity to hand-build with clay and make one ceramics piece to be fired. Activity number 14746. 

Dec. 14 - Special Interest: Virtual Armchair Travel to Frankenmuth, MI (Virtual Program, Ages 50 Plus, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., FREE) - Named one of the Best Christmas Towns in America by Country Living Magazine, Frankenmuth, Mich., is a quaint little town located 90 miles north of Detroit, that is all about family traditions....and Christmas! From the World's Largest Christmas Store to a one-of-a-kind 40-foot spectacular Christmas tree in the heart of downtown, Frankenmuth turns into something extra magical at Christmas time. Join Lydia Wilder with the Frankenmuth Visitors Center for a virtual presentation on the history of this charming town and all that it offers during the holidays. Activity number 14905.

Dec. 14 - Art: Holiday Printmaking (Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Ages 16 & Older, 6 to 8:30 p.m., $25 per person, $28 nonresidents) - Explore color, line, and shape while learning the basics of printmaking and creating holiday themed prints and cards. Activity number 14748.

Dec. 15 - Early Learning: Curiosity Corner (Meadowbrook Park Clubhouse, 9101 Nall Ave., Prairie Village, Ages 3 to 6, 10 to 11:30 a.m., $7 per person, $8 nonresidents) - Let their minds run wild with their friends. Children will engage in a fun book, craft, snack, and active play. Activity number 14650.

Dec. 15 - Games: Virtual Scattergories (Virtual Program, Ages 50 Plus, 10 to 11 a.m., FREE) - Think fast and write quicker in this fun and fast-paced game of alliterative words and categories! Activity number 14478.

Dec. 15 - Animal Tales: Visit from Santa (Ernie Miller Nature Center, 909 N. Kansas 7 Highway, Olathe, Ages 2-6 with adult, 10:30 to 11 a.m., $2 per person [including adults], Children under 1 year old must register, but will not be charged) - Join a park naturalist for animal stories and surprises geared for preschool age children. Come listen, learn, and meet a special animal friend every time. All children must be accompanied by a paying adult. Program held indoors. Activity number 14414. 

Dec 16 - Exercise: Restorative Yoga (Meadowbrook Park Clubhouse, 9101 Nall Ave., Prairie Village, Ages 50 Plus, 6 to 7 p.m., $10 per person, $11 nonresidents) - Slow, still style of yoga that involves long, passive holds in a series of 4-6 restful poses. Yogis are often supported by props to enhance or deepen their experience and achieve a state of total relaxation and release. Activity number 14583.

Dec. 16 - Museum: Behind-the-Scenes Johnson County Museum Tour (Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, All Ages, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., $11 adults, $10 seniors (60+), $9 children, museum members receive a 20% discount) - Interact with museum staff as you learn why we collect, how we collect, and the importance to our local community. Our collection features over 19,300 3D objects and over one million images. Activity number 14123. To claim discount, members must call 913-831-3359. Dec. 17 - Preschool: Snow Fun (Meadowbrook Park Clubhouse, 9101 Nall Ave., Prairie Village, Ages 2-5 with an Adult, 10 to 11 a.m., $7 per person, $8 nonresidents) - We are bringing the fun inside and welcoming all things warm. Story around the fireplace, s’mores, snowflake cocoa, and a winter craft. Activity number 14682.
