Here's a sampling of programs JCPRD has coming up for the week of Sept. 26 - Oct. 2: 

Sept. 24 - Pickleball: 50 Plus Fall Paddle Battle Pickleball Tournament (Meadowbrook Park, 9101 Nall Ave., Prairie Village, Ages 50 Plus, 8  a.m. to 5 p.m., $26 per person) - Come join us for a day of outdoor pickleball fun! Divisions available for single gender and mixed doubles. All players must be 50 years of age by the Sept. 10 registration deadline. Space is limited and tournament is expected to fill quickly. Sept. 28 - Special Events: Step Into Wellness (Meadowbrook Park & Clubhouse, 9101 Nall Ave., Prairie Village, Ages 50 Plus, 9 to 11:30 a.m., $5 per person, $6 nonresidents) - Explore the world of wellness! Sample a variety of exercise classes with instructor demo's, wellness activities, visiting with local businesses and an energizing walk through Meadowbrook Park. Two different walking paths available to suit varying fitness levels. Activity number 14580. 

Sept. 28 - Art: Petite Picassos (Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Ages 3 to 6, 10 to 10:50 a.m., $8 per person, $9 nonresidents) - Bring your budding artists into the Art Studio for a mini art project made just for them. We’ll explore different media and techniques of art while building on early learning skills during this mini class. Students will need an adult to attend class with them. Activity number 14632. Same date, 11 to 11:50 a.m. session, activity number 14634.

Sept. 28 - Acting Masterclass (Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Ages 12 to 18, Tuesdays, 5:30 to 7 p.m., 8 sessions, $135 per person, $150 nonresidents) - This class is geared for those who have taken Intro to Acting or an introductory acting course previously. We will cover professional tips such as finding the right audition monologue, 16 bar selection, as well as resume building and networking in the Kansas City theater community. Class will also do monologue and scene study work, culminating in a showcase at the end of the class. Activity number 13344.

Sept. 27 - Games: Learn to Play...Pinochle (Matt Ross Community Center, 8101 Marty St., Overland Park, Ages 50 Plus, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., $6 per person, $7 nonresidents) - A beginner's guide to what's sure to be your new favorite games. Handouts provided. Activity number 14184. After your lesson, check out our Pinochle drop-in group from 1 to 4 p.m.

Sept. 30 - Let's Sing Virtual (Virtual Program, Ages 8 to 12, Thursdays, 6 to 7 p.m., 8 sessions, $66 per person, $75 nonresidents) - Ever want to join show choir with your BFF....but they live in another city or state? Now you can! In this course series, you be guided by a professional teaching artist as you learn songs from some of the most popular musicals. A zoom link will be emailed out upon registration. Activity number 13349. 

Oct. 1 -  Flag Football: Clinic with Challenger Sports (Mid-America West Sports Complex, 20200 Johnson Dr., Shawnee, Grades K-8, Fridays, 4 sessions, $55 per person, $61 nonresidents) - Join Challenger Sports at Mid-America West Sports Complex to learn the game or enhance already honed skills. New and experienced players are welcome. Beginners will be introduced to the sport by learning mechanics and game play. More experienced players will be able to fine tune skills in preparation for upcoming seasons. Players will be divided into teams for drills and scrimmages. Clinic for Grades K & 1, activity number 14864. Clinic for Grades 2 & 3, activity number 14867.  Clinic for Grades 4 & 5, activity number 14868. Clinic for Grades 6 - 8, activity number 14869. 

Oct. 2 - Boating: Beginner Evening Kayak Excursion (Shawnee Mission Park Lake, 7900 Renner Road, Shawnee and Lenexa, Ages 18 & Older, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., $24 per person, $26 nonresidents) - Enjoy the evening on the water as we kayak around Shawnee Mission Park Lake. Hear the croaks and splash of frogs, the hooting of owls, and view the park from a different perspective. Space is limited. Registration required. Kayaks and life jackets provided. Beginner Excursion starts with a safety briefing and instruction. Basic swimming skills required. Meet at Shawnee Mission Park Marina boat ramp. Dress for the weather. Activity number 14459. Oct. 2 - Scouts: Cub Scout Bear Adventure - Fur, Feathers, and Ferns (Ernie Miller Nature Center, 909 N. Kansas 7 Highway, Olathe, 10 a.m. to Noon, Ages 7 & Older - Minimum one paid adult per five paid children, $7 per person [including adults], $8 nonresidents) - Take a one-mile hike visiting stations to earn your Fur, Feathers, and Ferns Adventure badge. See live animals, a working compost worm bin, and learn about composting. Learn about extinct and endangered animals. Smell and taste herbs and plant an herb to take home. In case of inclement weather program will be held indoors. Activity number 14312.
