Animal Tales Storytime sessions continue on Oct. 8 and 22

Animal Tales

“Fox’s Tale” and “Who’s There?” are the themes of October Animal Tales Storytime sessions being presented by the Johnson County Park and Recreation District’s Outdoor Education Department. Social distancing and COVID-19 safe practices will be encouraged during these programs.

October Animal Tales presentations include: “Fox’s Tale” (course ID 38340) on Oct. 8, and “Who’s There?” (course ID 38341) on Oct. 22," both at the Ernie Miller Nature Center. Originally scheduled for Wednesdays, Animal Tales programs have been moved to Thursdays for the remainder of the season because of a scheduling conflict.

Animal Tales Storytime is for ages two to six. All children must be accompanied by a paying adult. This program will feature stories, songs, and surprises. Participants will also get to meet a special animal friend at each session. Animal Tales Storytime was one of the many programs cited when the Ernie Miller Nature Center won an Oracle Award for Organizational Service and Leadership in the South Central Region from the National Storytelling Network a few years ago.

To find these programs in the district’s online listings at JCPRD.com, browse first under preschool and then under nature & outdoors. When using the website’s advanced search, look for the keyword “storytime.”

Other upcoming Animal Tales presentations this season include: “Forest Secrets” on Nov. 5 (course ID 38342), “Turkey Gobble" on Nov. 19 (course ID 38343), " Oh Deer!" on Dec. 3 (course ID 38344), and "Visit from Santa” on Dec. 17 (course ID 38345).

The cost per 30-minute session is $2 per person, including adults. While drop-in attendance was encouraged for this program in the past, because of coronavirus, advance registration is now required. For more information or to register, call (913) 831-3359. To register online at www.jcprd.com, click on “Register for Activities,” and complete a course ID search for the course IDs listed above.

Ernie Miller Nature Center is located at 909 N. Kansas-7 Highway, Olathe. For more information about this program, contact the nature center at (913) 826-2800.
