Annual Free Fishing Weekend in JCPRD parks is June 2 & 3

Free Fishing Weekend - NR

The  Johnson County Park & Recreation District has established the weekend of Saturday, June 2,  and Sunday, June 3, as the 2018 Annual Free Fishing Weekend in district parks. This coincides with the state of Kansas' "Free Fishing Days" in state parks.  The Saturday portion of the event also coincides with the JCPRD's Day in the Park event at Shawnee Mission, and Kill Creek parks, as well as the first Overnight Fishing Opportunity of the year at Heritage Park.

To find this program in the My JCPRD Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under fun for all and then under special events. In the catalog and when using the website’s advanced search,  look for the keyword “fishing.”

Fishing, boating, and archery permits will be waived on these days in the district parks where these activities are normally allowed as follows:

Fishing licenses have also been waived by the state of Kansas for this weekend, allowing fishing without a state license as well. However, JCPRD trout permits are still required on this day for those fishing for trout in Shawnee Mission and Kill Creek parks. Regular park hours for most parks for these days are 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. Exceptions are Antioch Park, which closes at 10 p.m., and the Streamway and Stoll parks, which are open from dawn to dusk. This event is the only time each year license and permit requirements are waived for all parks with fishing lakes. For more information, call (913) 888-4713.
