For over two decades, an early summer special event has provided 50 Plus participants with an opportunity to get outside, enjoy local trails, and stay active. The 23rd Annual In Step and In Shape event will take place on Wednesday, May 23, in Antioch Park, 6501 Antioch, Merriam. This year’s event will begin at 9 a.m. under Antioch Park’s Shelter #3. In addition to an organized walk on the park’s one-mile trail, there will be opportunities to try out various fitness activities, visit with a number of vendors, take part in a trivia game with great prizes, and enjoy a catered lunch. This year’s lunch speaker is Travis Perret, who owns and operates Exercise Therapy of Kansas City, and is the author of “Pain Free Life: Eliminate Chronic Pain and Get Back to a Younger More Active You!.” A graduate of the University of Kansas with a degree in Exercise Science, Perret is one of the leading experts in the country on the science of corrective exercise and how it affects and improves chronic pain issues. He is passionate about motivating people on how they can decrease chronic pain so they can live their life to the fullest, without pain pills, doctors, and surgeries. To find this program in the JCPRD’s Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under special events and then under 50 Plus.
