After being open on Saturdays and Sundays throughout May, the Shawnee Mission Park Marina will open daily for the summer season beginning May 25. Other aquatics facilities operated by the Johnson County Park and Recreation District, including the Shawnee Mission Park Beach, the Kill Creek Park Marina, the Kill Creek Park Beach, and the Roeland Park Aquatic  Center, will also open for their summer seasons on May 25. Not all of these facilities operate daily throughout the summer, but  all will end their regular summer seasons on Aug. 11.

Weekend hours at the Shawnee Mission Park Marina are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. After May 25, the marina will be open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. During both weekend and daily hours, the marina's last rentals each day will be at 6 p.m.

Note that a temporary repair to address rotten roof beams discovered last year at the SMP Marina has been made to allow the facility to operate out of its usual location this spring and summer, and a full roof replacement to bring the marina back to its original design is scheduled this fall.

After May 25, the Kill Creek Park Marina, which operates out of the beach, will be open from noon to 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday, noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, also through Aug. 11. The KCP marina is closed on Monday through Wednesday.

Both marinas offer boat rentals, including canoes, pedal boats, kayaks, and paddleboards. Fishing permits are also available at the Shawnee Mission Park Marina. The Shawnee Mission Park Marina accepts credit cards, but not checks. The Kill Creek Park Marina accepts cash only. Rental rates are listed at https://www.jcprd.com/Facilities/Facility/Details/Shawnee-Mission-Park-Marina-76.

Shawnee Mission and Kill Creek park beaches also open for their summer season on May 25, and the SMP beach is offering two weekly opportunities for open water swim training. Regular beach hours at Shawnee Mission Park are noon to 6 p.m. on every day of week except Tuesday and Thursday, when the hours are noon to 5 p.m. Open water swim training at SMP is offered from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. At Kill Creek Park, beach hours are noon to 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday, noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The KCP beach is closed on Monday through Wednesday, and no open water swim training is offered at that site this year.

For both beaches, regular daily beach admission rates for children 12 and under is $4 for Johnson County residents or $4.50 for nonresidents. Admission for adults 13 to 59 is $6 for Johnson County residents or $6.50 for nonresidents and ages 60 and older are $4 for Johnson County residents or $4.50 for nonresidents. Kill Creek Park Beach accepts cash only. Season passes are also available. For open water swim training, the cost is $7 per person for Johnson County residents or $7.50 for nonresidents.

Shawnee Mission Park is located at 7900 Renner Road in Shawnee and Lenexa. Kill Creek Park is located at 11670 Homestead Lane, Olathe.
