    Steve Sitton, Historic Site Administrator for the Thomas Hart Benton House, will share information about the artist’s life, controversies, and his interaction with local events from 1935-1975 in Kansas City. Margot Peet, an artist from Mission Hills that studied under Benton, is featured in our signature exhibit, “Becoming Johnson County.” We provide bottled water and dessert, please bring a sack lunch.     This modern day scavenger hunt is a great way to spend time with the family out in your local park. Each group is loaned a GPS device and given instructions on how to find the caches hidden around the Small Lakes area of Shawnee Mission Park. Receive a prize after finding the caches, then enjoy grilled hotdogs and S`mores. Those registering as individuals will each receive a GPS unit to use; participants registering as a group of four or less will be loaned one GPS unit; registering as a group of seven or less be loaned two GPS units. Meet at Shelter #2. To add even more fun to the night, head over to The Theatre in the Park after the geocaching event for a show! This two-hour session is just $11 ($13 nonresident) per person, $29 ($32 nonresident) for a family (up to four), or $39 ($43 nonresident) for a family (up to seven.)

We will enter the water as a group at 6:15pm. We will have kayaks for support until 7:30 pm. Drop in fee is $5 (separate from the park entry fee). 18 years of age and older only. SWIM CAPS OR SWIM BUOYS WILL BE REQUIRED!!!
