Based on a cult hit film of the same name, a musical production that is full of heart, with a raucous mix of razor-sharp humor and toe-tapping pizzazz is the next indoor production being presented by the Theatre in the Park at the Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center.

Theatre in the Park continues its 52nd season with “The Full Monty,” which will begin Oct. 1 and run through Oct. 17 in The Black Box Theatre at JCAHC.

“The Full Monty” is filled with honest affection, engaging melodies, and the most highly-anticipated closing number of any show. While spying on their wives at a "Girls' Night Out," a group of unemployed steelworkers from Buffalo sees how much they enjoy watching male strippers. Jealous, out of work, and feeling emasculated, the men come up with a bold and unclothed way to make some quick cash. In preparing, they find themselves extremely exposed; not merely physically, but emotionally. As they conquer their fears, self-consciousness, and prejudices, the men come to discover that they're stronger as a group, and the strength that they find in each other gives them the individual courage to "let it go."

“The Full Monty” is Rated R, for suggestive adult themes, content regarding suicide, and adult language. More information about this production can be found here:  https://www.theatreinthepark.org/the-full-monty.

“The Full Monty” will be presented 10 times. Each show will last about two hours with a 20-minute intermission. Evening performances beginning at 7:30 p.m. are planned for Oct. 1, 2, 8, 9, 14, 15, and 16. Afternoon performances at 2 p.m. are planned for Oct. 3, 10, 16, and 17. Interpreters for the deaf and hard of hearing will be present for the evening performance on Oct. 16.

With the exception of afternoon shows, tickets are $14.50 for children ages 10 and under, $14.85 for seniors 60 and older, and $16.50 for adults 11 to 59. Admission costs for afternoon shows are $11.60 for ages 10 and under, $11.88 for seniors 60 and older, and $13.20 for adults 11 and older. Tickets are available anytime online at theatreinthepark.org, or can be purchased at JCAHC during regular hours.

The Black Box Theatre provides the Theatre in the Park with a year-round venue to supplement its outdoor summer productions during June, July, and August in Shawnee Mission Park. JCAHC is located at 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park.

Up next for the indoor Theatre in the Park at JCAHC is an early December engagement representing the second year of TIP’s Innovative Theatre Challenge. With a mid-March deadline, TIP invited playwrights from across the Kansas City Metro area to submit new works that competed for production on the Theatre in the Park indoor stage!  Performances of this show are scheduled for Dec. 10 through 24.
