Six leagues are gearing up to begin play in late March or early April at the Johnson County Park and Recreation District’s Tomahawk Hills and Heritage Park golf courses. Even though some 2021 leagues have already held organizational meetings or have even begun play, all of this year’s leagues are still just getting started and players can join at anytime.
Leagues starting at Tomahawk Hills in Shawnee are: Tomahawk Hills Men’s Golf League, Tomahawk Hills Senior Men’s Golf Association, the Tomahawk Hills Women’s Golf Association, and the Tomahawk Hills Working Ladies Intermediate Golf League.
Heritage Park offers the Heritage Park Golf Course Senior Men’s Golf League. Not a league, but HPGC also offers a Men’s Club with 12 weekend events. The Heritage Park Ladies Golf League is not playing in 2021, so consider the women’s leagues at Tomahawk instead.
In addition, a new coed Spark League is being offered at both courses.
Physical distancing and COVID-19 safe practices will be encouraged during all of these programs.
Fun golf and camaraderie are the main goals of the
Tomahawk Hills Men’s Golf League for patron and annual members. Individual or team formats change nightly and a season-long point system is kept for scoring league play. This league runs for two nine-week sessions through the summer and plays every Wednesday with tee times between 3 and 6 p.m. beginning May 5. To register or to request more information, call (913) 631-8000.
The
Tomahawk Hills Senior Men’s Golf Association is open to ages 50 and older and will golf every other Tuesday morning beginning March 30. Participants must purchase a Senior Patron Card for $55 and pay senior dues of $50. These fees entitle participants to many discounts and are used to provide prizes for each tournament. To join the Senior Men's Golf Association, fill out the
member application.
The
Tomahawk Hills Women’s Golf Association will hold its annual organizational meeting on Wednesday, April 7 at 8 a.m. The group is open to women of all levels of play. Both nine- and 18-hole leagues play every Wednesday morning from April through October. Participants must purchase a Golf Patron Card, which varies in cost based on the holder’s age and residency, and pay the association registration fee of $40. The
Tomahawk Hills Working Ladies Intermediate Golf League is designed for intermediate golfers. Preliminary rounds run every Thursday in April with event play starting May 6. The
Heritage Park Golf Course Senior Men’s Golf League is open to ages 50 and older and will golf every Thursday morning beginning April 22 for 8 a.m. shotgun starts. You will always find fun, friendly competitions, and a great group of senior players. Golfers compete for prizes each week with different formats, and prizes accumulate throughout the season. An October Championship is also planned. There’s always time to join. For more information, contact Jerry Lewis at the golf shop at (913) 829-4653 or Dave Poecker at (913) 787-5215. Participants must pay a $75 initiation fee for the prize fund.
Men’s Club Weekend Events at HPGC are for patron and annual members and involve 12 weekend events between April 10 and Oct. 2. The club offers a variety of formats including individual and team competitions. The signup deadline is April 2.
The new coed Spark Golf League at both Heritage Park Golf Course and Tomahawk Hills offers play on three different weeknights. All three options involve nine-hole, social leagues organized to be casual and fun, with a touch of friendly competition. This program uses an app and lets participants play as little or as much as their schedules allow.
Tomahawk’s league will play Tuesdays starting April 6 at 5 p.m. with
Heritage’s league playing Wednesdays starting March 31, and Thursdays starting May 13.
