June outings include: a Wednesday Walk at the Line Creek Trail on June 6, an Adventure Hike at Missouri’s Crowder State Park on June 16, a Day Trip to see the Royals play Kauffman Stadium on June 19, an Adventure Walk at Kansas’ Eisenhower State Park on June 20, and a Day Trip to see “South Pacific” at The Theatre in the Park on June 22. All trips include transportation.
The
Wednesday Walk at the Line Creek Trail is part of the Summer Strolling series, and will give walkers a chance to experience lush greenways and opportunities to spot local wildlife. This walk is expected to require an easy level of exertion.
This walk will depart at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, June 6 from Antioch Park. The cost for this six-hour outing, including van transportation to the walk site, is $19 per person for Johnson County residents or $21 for nonresidents. Participants should bring a sack lunch for a picnic after the walk, and a few dollars in case we decide to stop for ice cream.
The final Wednesday walk in this series will take participants to the
KU Field Station north of Lawrence on July 18.
The
Adventure Hike at Missouri’s Crowder State Park will let participants visit the 1,912 acre park located in the rolling green hills of northern Missouri. The park features glaciated hills, rugged slopes, thick forests, abundant wildlife, and an 18-acre lake. Lunch will be at the Gingerich Dutch Pantry in Jamesport, Mo. This outing is considered a difficult hike. Please bring your own water bottle, and the use of hiking boots and/or walking sticks is also recommended.
This program will leave from Antioch Park, at 8 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, and return at approximately 5 p.m. that day. The cost for one nine-hour outing, including transportation, is $31 per person for Johnson County residents or $34 for nonresidents. Lunch costs are on your own. Please register for this program by June 9.
Participants in the June 19
Day at the K Day Trip will get to see the Royals play the Texas Rangers. The initial offering of this trip filled quickly, but a waiting list is growing, and officials are confident a number of additional spaces will be added, so if you’re interested, please join the waiting list. Two departure points are being offered for this trip. One will leave at 4 p.m. from the New Century Fieldhouse, and the other will depart at 5 p.m. from Antioch Park. The cost for this seven-and-one-half-hour trip is $81 per person and includes transportation, drop off and pick up at the gate, and a lower level ticket. Dinner costs at the stadium will be on your own.
The
Eisenhower State Park Adventure Walk will take place on Wednesday, June 20. Located on the shores of the 6,930-acre Melvern Lake south of Topeka, this state park has 1,785 acres including 1,000 acres of tallgrass prairie, and 440 acres of woodland. This hike is expected to require a moderate level of exertion.
This program will depart at 8 a.m. from Antioch Park, 6501 Antioch, Merriam, and return about 5 p.m. the same day. The cost for one nine-hour outing, including transportation to the walk site, is $27 per person for Johnson County residents or $30 for nonresidents. Lunch, with costs on your own, will take place at Breck’s Green Acres restaurant in Vasser, Kan.
The final 50 Plus Adventure Walk this season will be

“South Pacific” during the June 22 Day Trip. Set in an island paradise during World War II, this Rodger’s and Hammerstein musical favorite tells two parallel stories of love threatened by the dangers of prejudice and war. This show is rated PG and is sure to enchant all ages.
