Ten different yoga programs for ages ranging from two to 50 Plus are being offered at three JCPRD locations during the new program season beginning in January.
Yoga offerings this season are: Yoga for ages 14 and older, Yoga Fusion for ages 14 and older, Chair Yoga for 50 Plus, Yoga Beyond Basics for ages 14 and older, Morning Flow Yoga for ages 18 and older, Yoga Sun Flow for ages 14 and older, Slow Burn Yoga for ages 14 and older, Animal Yoga for ages six to 13, Nature Time Yoga for ages two to six with an adult, and a Nidra Yoga Workshop for ages 18 and older.
“Our bodies are meant to move and yoga helps to celebrate how we stretch and engage our muscles,” said Senior Park Naturalist Molly Postlewait, who teaches Nature Time Yoga programs at the Ernie Miller Nature Center. “Yoga is a bridge to connect our mind to our bodies. Yoga can also help us work through discomfort and to help anxiety and stress. The practice of yoga encourages us to use our arms and legs as an extension of our heart.”
The class called simply “Yoga” will help participants of all levels lengthen muscles while increasing both muscle and bone density. This low-intensity program can also improve circulation, regulate metabolism, increase flexibility, and help with coordination.

Another new yoga offering, and the only program on this list that doesn’t have a class meeting until early February, is the Nidra Yoga Workshop. This single-session evening program will focus on mental wellness, by teaching participants to meditate, relax, and experience “yogic sleep” and guided visualization.
“Nidra yoga is basically a guided mediation that is done in one or only a couple of yoga positions,” said Recreation Coordinator Sophie Griffin. “We have a wonderful instructor, Valerie Deering, who is trained in Nidra yoga. She brought the idea of a workshop to us because we have had such a good response to our yoga programs at MBPC. We felt like it would be a unique experience and a different kind of wellness program.”
