You know summer is winding down when beaches and marinas start closing for the season.
Five

At Kill Creek Park, beach hours are noon to 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday, noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The adapted season includes Friday hours of 4 to 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday hours of noon to 6 p.m., except on Labor Day (Sept. 2) when the facility closes at 4 p.m.
Also ending their summer operating hours on Aug. 11 are the marinas at both parks. Until then, Shawnee Mission Park Marina will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily (last rentals at 6 p.m.) and the Kill Creek Park Marina (which also operates off of the beach) will be open from 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Both marinas offer boat rentals, including kayaks, and paddleboards, which have a weight limit of 220 pounds. Shawnee Mission Park Marina also has canoes and pedal boats. Rental rates are listed in the May through August My JCPRD Activities catalog, and on the district’s website at www.jcprd.com. Fishing permits are also available at the Shawnee Mission Park marina. Patrons should be aware that while the Shawnee Mission Park Marina now accepts credit cards, the Kill Creek Park Marina does not and neither facility accepts checks.
