Q: What does it cost to visit the museum?
General Admission to the museum at the Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center is $5 adults, $4 seniors, 60+, children ages 1-17 are $3. Museum Members are FREE.
Q. Can we go through the museum on our own?
Visitors may tour the museum and the 1950s All-Electric House on their own. Guided tours are offered daily as part of general admission fees. Times are at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm daily. Large groups should call 913-715-2570 to schedule a tour.
Q. What are your hours?
The museum opens at 9:00 AM and closes at 4:30 PM Monday – Saturday. The museum is closed on Sunday and major holidays.
Q. How long should we plan on our visit to last?
Most visitors spend about 2 hours at the Museum. The guided tour lasts approximately 45 minutes.
Q. How do I make group reservations?
Group tours can be scheduled by calling 913-715-2570.
Q. Where is the museum located?
The Museum is located inside the Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center at 8788 Metcalf Avenue in Overland Park, Kansas.
Q. Is the Museum ADA compliant?
Yes, all the facilities and amenities at the Johnson County Arts and Heritage Center are ADA compliant. The museum also offers large-print and braille versions of the exhibit script for the signature exhibition "Becoming Johnson County" for visitors and a digital tour of the 1950s All-Electric House for any visitors who may experience difficulty accessing the hallway to the bedroom and bathroom. The house is accessible with a ramp and all other areas of home are fully-accessible. These reasonable accommodations are available for check-out at no charge at the front reception desk of the Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center.
Q. Can I rent a wheelchair?
The Museum offers two wheelchairs for our guests to utilize during their visit. We do not reserve them – access is on a first come, first serve basis.
Q. Is photography permitted?
Yes, photography for personal, non-commercial use is permitted in all the museum galleries. We do not allow any equipment for personal use beyond a hand-held camera. No tripods, lights, etc. are permitted. Those wishing to photograph commercially should contact the museum at 913-826-2787.
Q. Can we bring outside food into the museum?
Food and drink is not allowed in any of the museum galleries. Thank you for your help in preserving the objects at the museum and keeping our gallery spaces clean.
Space is available for visitors to eat in the main common space of the Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center.
Q. What are the dining options on site?
We have vending machines with snacks and drinks.
Q. Am I allowed to leave and come back?
Yes, all visitors are given a wrist band for the day so you may return on the same day.
Q. Can we rent out the Museum for special/ private events?
Yes, a number of spaces throughout the facility are available to rent, including the museum. Please call our coordinator at 913-826-2787 to learn more!
