The north section including parking areas at Clare Road and 119th Street are now open. There is a barricade showing where the trail closure begins. In the future, sections of the trail will be closed intermittently for minor projects.
JCPRD's Cedar Niles property is located west of K-7, stretching from approximately 119th Street just past 135th Street. The property totals 957 acres and contains many natural assets including streams, dramatic topography and diverse plant life. The master plan for Cedar Niles was first developed in 2008. The predominate public opinion was that the park should include mostly passive uses, with a strong interest in a variety of trails.
JCPRD Planning & Development staff are currently preparing for the first phase of development, which will include four miles of trail running from 119th Street to 135th Street. Users will be able to access the trail from three access points: 119th Street, 127th Street and 135th Street. The majority of the park’s initial development will occur near 135th Street. Plans include a picnic shelter, playground and restroom building.
The Cedar Niles Park design concept was present at the February 20, 2019 Regular Board meeting. The Board moved to proceed with design and construction documents.
