Master Plan

With approximately 200-acres, TimberRidge Adventure Center (TRAC) is located approximately five miles south of De Soto, Kansas and adjacent to Kill Creek Regional Park.

During the summer of 2016, the Johnson County Park and Recreation District (JCPRD) began updating the parks and facilities master plan for TimberRidge Adventure Center (TRAC).

About TimberRidge Adventure Center

TRAC includes a welcome center and office, a large group program shelter, challenge course, archery and BB gun ranges, a large mowed outdoor game field, a primitive group camping area, and two lakes offering fishing, canoeing, kayaking and pedal boating. TimberRidge Adventure Center also includes hiking trails and access to diverse landscapes including wooded riparian corridors, rocky hillsides, grasslands, and waterways.

Each of these amenities plays a key role in offering facilitated programs such as summer camps, team building programs, school field trips, weddings, corporate picnics, and other special events.

Amenities

The revised master plan, an update to the year 2000 master plan, preserves these amenities while proposing additional elements that can promote year-round use and increase revenue generation.

Two year-round and revenue generating amenities include an adventure course, canopy tour, challenge course, a progression of ACA-type camp facilities, and improved lake and fishing elements. Also, the EpiCenter offers a year-round space for indoor ropes courses, climbing wall, BB gun and archery range, conference center and safe room.

Market Analysis

Planning team members conducted a market analysis and talked with Great American Family Campout participants in July of 2016. Two months later in September, we conducted a focus group discussions held with TRAC leadership, staff, and customers, followed by an Exploration Day where the public was invited to see the facility and comment on concept options for the master plan revision.

The options were displayed again at the October Mildale Farm Fest 2016 event for public comment and solicitation of input. The market findings and community events help to uncover the potential improvements that are important for TRAC's future. These potential improvements may include more team building opportunities, creating memorable experiences, and much more.

Next Master Plan Review - Spring 2018

The master plan will be reviewed by the board when the financial feasibility analysis is complete in spring of 2018.
