Theatre and Art at the AHC
The Black Box Theatre
Inside the AHC is a state-of-the-art performance space, featuring complete flexibility with a maximum seating capacity of 300. Overhead, the entire space is covered with a "tension grid" allowing technicians to walk above the playing space AND audience. Equipment can be hung above the grid, allowing easy access to hang and focus lights, adjust sound speaker placement, and install and run special effects of all kinds.
Fine & Performing Arts Programming
The Fine & Performing Arts Department of JCPRD offers many classes and programs inside the AHC including performing arts camps , TIP Academy, art classes and camps, and much, much more. There's a class for you... we just know it!
From the family trio of The Theatre in the Park, the Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center and the Johnson County Museum comes a new fine arts addition: STAGEPLAY!
StagePlay is an immersive, performing arts field trip for children grades K-8 that adopts a holistic learning approach designed to satisfy Kansas State educational standards.
StagePlay is singular in its formation, holistic in its practice, and unique to Johnson County. It is the ONLY performing arts, education-based field trip providing three days of classroom curriculum (adhering to and satisfying Kansas College and Career Ready State Standards), a theatrical performance, and engagement activities (including S.T.E.A.M.) facilitated through a field-trip model for area school districts.
