Learn the basics of this classic tabletop game from an experienced instructor. Each player receives a current Mah Jongg card to take home.

Games: BINGO

BINGO!  Delight in food, prizes, fun and 12 games of bingo. Variety of prizes awarded including gift certificates. Please pre-register at least one week in advance. Payment is required at time of registration. For the enjoyment of all participants, children are not permitted to attend 50 Plus Bingos. Cost of admission covers snacks and staff time to administer the bingo program. No additional charge for bingo.

Performing Group: New Horizons Band

Dig out your old instrument or purchase/rent a new one and join our group of fun-loving musicians, it doesn’t matter if you haven’t played in years! Through a cooperative effort between UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance, Meyer Music, and JCPRD, this band offers an opportunity to make music in a relaxed, learning atmosphere. Art: Senior Arts Council 

Meet fellow artists and enthusiasts by becoming a member of the Senior Arts Council. Meetings include presentations by a featured artist, workshops, or demonstrations. An invitation for membership is extended for those 55 and older. Visitors welcome. Members have the opportunity to display and sell their works at various exhibits. Meetings held the last Monday of the month.

Crafts: Caring Hands Knitting Group

Join this generous group of individuals who knit and crochet hats for charity. Free lessons given to beginners. Knitters unable to attend are also welcomed to knit at home and bring their hats in to be donated. The Roeland Park Community Center accepts yarn, knitting needles, and hat donations year-round from those unable to attend meetings; call 913-826-3160 to learn how you can contribute. Meets weekly.

Special Interest: Osher - The American Revolution

Most people know little about the American Revolution. Could thirteen disunited colonies defeat Europe's most powerful military? This course examines the lives of farmers who became soldiers, women in many roles, and Indigenous and enslaved people. With new knowledge, participants can explore the question: Who benefitted from the war? Who didn't? Vincent Clark holds a doctorate in modern European history. His graduate work included a Fulbright Graduate Fellowship at Germany's University of Heidelberg. He was history professor and chair of the history department at Johnson County Community College and has published articles and books in his field.

Exercise: Hatha (Gentle) Yoga Punch Card

MODERATE INTENSITY: Strengthen your body, calm your mind, and improve your flexibility and balance. All fitness levels can benefit from this class. Participants are encouraged to bring yoga mats. New participants are welcome to try one class for free, please call 913-826-3160 for more information, details and class start time. Five and ten punch cards expire three months after date of sale; 20 punch cards expire four months after date of sale. No class 1/1 and 1/15.

Games: Special Event - Grand Family Fun Event (Ages 5 & Older and 50 Plus)

NEW! There’s no better way to bond with your grandchild than an afternoon of fun-filled activities at our Grand Family Fun Event! Together you will craft your very own adorable plushy, creating a lovable companion that will forever remind them of the moments shared with you. The Zoo Factory kit will include a 16” stuffable animal, stuffing, wishing star and birth certificate. So, gather your grandkids, roll up your sleeves, and embark on a journey full of creativity and memorable experiences! Each child will take home one 16” stuffed animal with birth certificate.
