Mission Accomplished!

The Shawnee Mission Triathlon and Duathlon occurs in Shawnee Mission Park and takes athletes throughout th1280px-USA_Triathlon_logo.svge most visited park in the state that serves as a 1,665-acre urban refuge. Additionally, the course joins the Mill Creek Streamway Trail offering asphalt pathways snaking along the stream and through hillside forests.

With five different events including relays, there is something for every athlete ranging in experience from first timer to the seasoned veteran. The Shawnee Mission Triathlon & Duathlon is featured as the 2024 USA Triathlon Kansas State Championship event with the top 35% of finishers in the Short Course and Olympic Triathlons qualifying for USA Triathlon Nationals.

USAT-Sanctioned Paratriathlon Friendly Event

The Shawnee Mission Triathlon has again been designated by the USA Triathlon Paratriathlon Committee as Paratriathlon Friendly. Are you interested in learning more about this Paratriathlon Friendly race or want to sign up? Email Race Director Katy Renner or call 913-826-2964 for more information.

2024 USA Triathlon State Championships

State Championships are open to all triathletes, as no qualification is required to compete. State Championships include a non-drafting Sprint- and Olympic-distance triathlon for age group athletes, as well as a High School State Championship division in the Sprint-distance (or super-sprint) race. Learn more about the 2023 State Championships here.

Club members

State championships events will also serve as the Club State Championships for age group and high school clubs. Club members around the country are encouraged to race at their local state championship to earn the designation of top club in the state and win the club state champion banner from USA Triathlon!

Adult athletes

Racing at State Championships have increased odds to qualify for Sprint- and Olympic-Distance National Championships at USA Triathlon Nationals. State Championships qualify the top 35 percent, or top five finishers in each age group (whichever is greater) for the 2024 or 2025 Sprint and Olympic-Distance Nationals. At this percentage, sprint state championships only qualify for Sprint Nationals and Olympic-distance state championships only qualify for Olympic-distance Nationals.

Normal qualification criteria at any USA Triathlon-sanctioned triathlon of any distance is the top two, or 15 percent, of an athlete’s age group (whichever is greater). This means any distance triathlon can qualify for either sprint or Olympic-distance National Championship at this reduced percentage.

High school athletes

Experienced and newcomers alike — and high school triathlon clubs are encouraged to race their High School State Championship. All high school athletes who finish a High School State Championship race will automatically qualify for the Sprint-Distance National Championships at USA Triathlon Nationals (pending they are at least age 15 as of December 31, 2024).

Qualifying for the 2024 USA Triathlon Nationals, updated for 2024: State championships will qualify the top 35% or top five (5) finishers in an age group (whichever is greater).

Volunteers

We have several opportunities for volunteers to help out with the event! Please visit the Run Sign Up page to register. If you have further questions, please email Race Director Katy Renner. Thank you for helping out!
