Roeland Park Community Center

ARTventure Camps (Ages 6-12)

Spend one week with us or a whole summer! You can get creative all summer long with a 20% discount (hey, that's TWO free weeks of camps!) if you register for all 11 weeks. That's a pretty cool deal. 

What will you be doing all summer? Work with teaching artists to develop your artistic eye through an adventurous lens combined with interactive experiences, games, and many more ARTventures! Camp activities run from 9 am to 4 pm, and supervision is available from 8 am to 5:30 pm. And HEY! These camps go swimming every week too!

Lines come in various forms: straight, curvy, thick, thin, zig-zag, and so many more! What types of lines can you think up? Is there such a thing as a line that has yet to be invented?

Shapes are two-dimensional. What is a geometric shape versus an organic shape? What shapes are found in the natural world? What does it mean to create abstract art using shapes?

Learn different approaches to pattern through painting and mixed media as you explore how pattern is essential to the arts. This week focuses on true design and how to repeat motifs, colors, or shapes to create an aesthetic.

Exploring two-dimensional and three-dimensional works of art, learn how balance really applies to both forms of art. Three-dimensional art must have balance to stand-up right, so how do you make that happen? Does two-dimensional art have balance?

Rhythm is a difficult thing to capture (pssst this is why this week is last!) as it involves the slight differences in pattern which create movement within art. Did you ever notice how you look all over a work of art when you see it? What creates the map of your view? The artist does! Now you’ll learn how too!
