JCPRD's Big Bad Pumpkin Derby
Our traditional Big Bad Pumpkin Derby is one of JCPRD's greatest annual events! We are calling all spirited and fun loving pumpkin racer enthusiasts to grab a pumpkin or any other fall gourd, add some paint, decals, wheels and axles, and get your pumpkin tuned up and ready for the race of its life on our very fast course in the Shawnee Mission Park marina parking lot.

Either way the Big Bad Pumpkin Derby is a must do event to add to your family's fall fun calendar! There will be activities and entertainment for everyone so bring your friends and family out to cheer you on!

Free Hayrides
Our big event is more than just an exciting pumpkin race! All are welcome to come and enjoy free hayrides all day!

The Pumpkin Derby Race - Registration Required
Entries built by kids, adults, teams and/or clubs are all eligible to compete for top 10 honors in the races. Youth group entrants will earn fun patches for their participation in the derby. Pre-registration is required for the double elimination field of 64 racers. The Big Bad Pumpkin Derby is an annual sell out- so register early to avoid disappointment!

You'll be up against many different racing pumpkin owners with many different sizes and colors. It is sure to be a blast for competitors and spectators alike!

Event Contributions To Assist Those in Need
JCPRD is proud to contribute proceeds to Camp New Horizons. Camp New Horizons is a summer camp that specializes in providing a summer camp opportunity to special needs youth in the area. JCPRD has been proudly serving special needs children and youth of Johnson County since 1969.

The Big Bad Canine’s Costume Contest
Does your pooch love dressing up - or at least tolerate it? If so, don’t miss this great JCPRD opportunity to show off your four-legged friend at our 2nd annual Big Bad Canine Costume Contest and Parade. As you parade your pup they will be eligible for prizes including Most Creative Costume, Cutest, Scariest, Most Unusual and Best Duo. Pre-registration is recommended. Sign-in starts at 11:00 am, followed by a pet parade at 12:00 pm and award announcements at 1:00 pm. Come out and enjoy the pumpkin races while giving your furry friend a chance to strut their stuff! This event will also be held in the marina parking lot.
