Shawnee Mission Park, a multi-use, 1,600-acre park
is located at 79th and Renner Road in Shawnee, Kansas. The land was
purchased through the District's initial bond issue in 1956 and officially
dedicated on May 30, 1964. It is the largest park in the county and
the most visited park in the entire state of Kansas.
Shawnee Mission Park is home to a number of fantastic amenities as
well as a beautiful 120-acre lake. Our beautiful scenic lake is a
very popular spot for boating, fishing, sail boarding, and much more.
The park also has eleven spacious shelters, numerous picnic areas,
nature trails, play areas, an archery range, a 53-acre dog off-leash
area, a disc golf course, and is a great place to enjoy mountain biking
and horseback riding. The park is also home to The
Theatre in the Park, Shawnee Mission Park Beach (closed for 2017),
and Shawnee Mission Park Marina. In season, there are canoes, pedal
boats, and fishing boats available for rent at the marina.

Shawnee Mission Park Beach - Closed for 2017
The previous Shawnee Mission Park Beach House was demolished in September 2016 due to age and structural concerns. It is anticipated the new structure will be complete in time for the 2018 summer season. For additional information please view the Beach House information page.
The Shawnee Mission Park observation tower was closed to public access in January of this year. The tower has significant structural deficiencies and has unfortunately reached a point where repair is not practical. The existing tower will not be re-opened.
The tower has been a popular destination at Shawnee Mission Park since it was constructed in 1964. JCPRD is looking at options to construct a new observation tower in Shawnee Mission Park, and part of this process will include opportunities for public input and comment.

"The trails are the BEST thing you have done to the park. I feel safer not walking on the road and I'm really enjoying the beauty of the park. Great job!"
