| In 2007 the Johnson County Park and Recreation District Board of Commissioners approved a new Master
Plan
for the 364-acre Oakridge Farm adjacent to Shawnee Mission Park.
The
plan calls for carefully transforming the historic homestead into a unique recreational resource that features multiple scenic overlooks and nature observation points, and more than 11 miles of multi-use and specialty trails. Once the plan is completed, the site will serve as a regional trailhead and will be readily accessible from Shawnee Mission Park, Mill Creek
Streamway Park, and Tomahawk
Recreation Complex.
The property currently is only open to the boarders of Oakridge Stables, the horse boarding operation the District manages on the site. There are no horse rentals available to the public.
Oakridge Stables will be permanently closed at some point during the implementation of the Oakridge Farm Master Plan. While the actual closing date has yet to be determined, it will not be before April 1, 2009.
To inquire about boarding opportunities prior to the closing, please call (913) 894-3341.
