Ernie Miller Nature Center
Looking for a quick escape from the city blues? A walk through our
113-acre Ernie Miller Park will take you through
a diverse range of
habitats such as tall grass prairie, upland meadows, bottomland forest
and stream.
View birds from the Nature Center's lobby as they visit the feeders
and discover more about the park's wildlife and history through
exhibits and a diorama.

Monday - Saturday: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Ernie Miller Nature Park Trail Hours
Park trails open daily dawn to dusk.
John Barkley Visitor Center
The John Barkley Visitor Center was named after the District's first park
superintendent and World War I Congressional Medal of Honor recipient.
Inside the Visitor Center, located at the entrance to Shawnee Mission Park,
you can view our local
and national parks exhibit as well as purchase JCPRD
park fishing permits,
general use permits (metal detecting, model rocketry
and remote controlled vehicles and boats) and Kansas State fishing licenses.
Special
use permits can be obtained at the JCPRD Parks & Golf Courses
office located in theJCPRD Administration Building.
