| Mid-America West Sports Complex
(MAWSC) is the name the Johnson County Park
and Recreation District established in mid-2004 for the facility
at 20200 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, previously
known as the Johnson County Girls Athletic Complex. The name change
was meant to reflect that the facility also provides recreational
opportunities for girls, boys, adults, and other users groups and
is also located in close proximity for the Mid-America
Sports Complex. The JCPRD permanently acquired the facility
in late 2003 after previously operating it under a lease/management
agreement that
began
in March 2002 and involved the Parks and Recreation Foundation of
Johnson County. The 12 outdoor youth softball fields with
related amenities were
built in 1989 and is the host facilty to many of the JCPRD youth
softball leagues, tournaments and camps.
