Ernie
Miller Nature Center
Ernie Miller Nature Center was the first Nature Center in Johnson County.
The Center provides an opportunity for learning, understanding, and admiring
nature's ever- changing ways. It is the focal point of cultural, historical,
and environmental education programming offered to all ages by the Johnson
County Park and Recreation District. The Center contains displays, live
animals, and Nature's Corner Gift Shop, along with a friendly, knowledgeable
staff eager to share their knowledge of nature.
The
Theatre in the Park
The Theatre in the Park is the best outdoors venue for community theater
in the metro area, with over 10 acres in Shawnee Mission Park and a new
state of the art lighting and sound system. See the best of Broadway, dance,
music and more! Great to reserve for special events, festivals, corporate
gatherings, fundraising events, and other public attractions where you need
some elbow room. Arrangements can be made for catered picnics, followed
by entry to a regularly scheduled theatrical performance.
Kansas
City Corporate Challenge
The Kansas City Corporate Challenge originated in 1980 with the intention
of providing a variety of Olympic-type sporting events. These events allow
the employees of Kansas City Area corporations to interact with each other
through a variety of athletic sporting events. The purpose of this series
of sporting events is to promote health, wellness, and camaraderie by presenting
participants with physical endeavors designed to challenge their bodies
and minds through the spirit of corporate competition. 2009 marks the 30th
year for the Kansas City Corporate Challenge.
The
Kansas City Blazers
The Johnson County Park and Recreation District is proud to be the sponsoring
organization for the Kansas City Blazers Swim Team. The Blazers are the
only swim club in the country sponsored by a park and recreation agency
to have had swimmers compete in the Olympics for the US Olympic team.
Department
of Labor, Youth Rules
YouthRules! was launched by the U.S. Department of Labor in May 2002 to
increase public awareness of Federal and State rules concerning young workers.
Through the YouthRules! initiative, the U.S. Department of Labor and its
partners seek to promote positive and safe work experiences that help prepare
young workers to enter the 21st Century workforce.
Disabled
Sports USA
A national nonprofit, 501(c)(3), organization established in 1967 by disabled
Vietnam veterans to serve the war injured. DS/USA now offers nationwide
sports rehabilitation programs to anyone with a permanent physical disability.
Activities include winter skiing, water sports, summer and winter competitions,
fitness and special sports events. Participants include those with visual
impairments, amputations, spinal cord injury, dwarfism, multiple sclerosis,
head injury, cerebral palsy, and other neuromuscular and orthopedic conditions.

Wildlife and Parks
KDWP manages the natural resources of Kansas, regulates hunting, and administrates
the state park system. Find on-line information about state licenses for
fishing, boating, and hunting.
Park
Law Enforcement Association
P.L.E.A. provides informational services directed toward informing park
and recreation professionals, policy makers and lay people of the role and
importance of law enforcement services in providing a quality of life at
park and recreation opportunities.
Rec-Finder
An on-line database for outdoor recreation in Kansas. Rec-Finder allows
users to search a database of over 450 trails, 3,500 parks and 12,500 recreation
amenities across Kansas for places to participate in their favorite outdoor
recreation activities. Users can search for parks and facilities by name,
location, park type or facilities found there.

Trust for Public Lands
This web site is a resource for citizens and communities working to create
parks and protect open space. TPL is a national nonprofit that conserves
land for public use and enjoyment. Its website contains news about national
and local-based projects, programs,and issues.

The mission of the Kids Golf "Drive, Pitch & Putt" is to make heroes out
of parents, kids, and golf directors worldwide by offering a free, fun and
easy way to enjoy the great game of golf for a lifetime!
