Completed: Project - Lexington Lake Park

Phase Development
Development of the first phase of Lexington Lake Park started in August 2016 with the park opening July 2017. This 465-acre property is located west of De Soto north of Kansas 10 Highway.


Phase I: Park Amenities

  • A boat ramp and lake access courtesy dock
  • Playground, picnic shelter with grills and a water fountain
  • 27-acre lake with 2.5 kilometer (1.55 miles) paved trail
  • 60 acres converted to tallgrass prairie
  • 1.5 mile dirt-surfaced hiking and biking trail
  • Newly renovated dam and refined shoreline
     

    Property Notes

  • The lake was originally constructed in the 1950s
  • More than 300 acres of oak and hickory forest
  • About a half mile southwest of the Kansas River
  • 100 year old structures and stone walls
  • Nine acres of virgin prairie
  • 120 prairie species, including threatened Mead's milkweed



    Future Implementation

    The Lexington Lake Park Master Plan identifies a number of additional amenities that could be included in future development phases.  Features include athletic practice fields, additional parking, marina, natural amphitheater,  disc golf course, camping sites, cross country course, picnic shelters and park maintenance facility.   Additional information can be found in the Lexington (previously Reike) Lake Park Master Plan.
