|Movie Nights switch to Saturday double- and triple features beginning Aug. 17|
Following an Aug. 6 Tuesday night showing of “Singin’ in the Rain;” The Theatre in the Park’s Movies in the Park program will move to Saturday nights, when a number of classic films will be shown as double- and triple-features.
Other August movie nights include: a “Jurassic Park” double feature including “Jurassic Park” and “The Lost World” on Aug. 17; a “Lord of the Rings” triple feature including “The Fellowship of the Rings,” “The Two Towers,” and “The Return of the King” (which will go until 6:20 a.m. the next morning) on Aug. 24; and James Bond double feature including “Goldfinger” and “the Spy Who Loved Me” on Aug. 31.
Through this program, called Movies in the Park, a variety of films are being shown on a 40-foot screen on the theatre stage on eight nights of the summer when musical productions are not scheduled. Family favorite movies run on every other Tuesday during the theatre’s regular season, and then switch to Saturday nights. The cost is $1 per person. The Aug. 6 show will begin at 8:45 and the remaining programs will begin at 8:30 p.m.
Movies in the Park are being presented by Surewest, while the first five films of the series were sponsored by Capitol Federal.
The Theatre in the Park is owned and operated by The Johnson County Park & Recreation District and is located north of the main entrance to Shawnee Mission Park with a separate entrance at 7710 Renner Road in Shawnee.
