|Finalist in Magazine's Art Competition is Among Artists in Johnson County Art Fest 2006 at Ernie Miller Nature Center Nov. 5 through 19|
Among the 40 local artists featured in the Johnson County Art Fest 2006, scheduled for Nov. 5 through 19 at the Ernie Miller Nature Center, is a Prairie Village man who is a finalist in the 23rd annual competition conducted by The Artist's Magazine.
Bill Rose, who describes himself as a self-taught artist who discovered his art talent "by accident" about six years ago, is a finalist for two different entries in the competition's Portrait and Figurative Category. One of those pieces, a charcoal portrait titled "Denim Knees," will be on display during the second-annual Art Fest exhibition. Rose said "Denim Knees" is based on a series of photos he shot in and around Kansas City's Country Club Plaza of a young University of Kansas art student named Maggie. Rose will have his name published as a finalist in The Artist's Magazine's December issue.
In addition to Rose's work, Art Fest will showcase the works of 39 other Johnson County artists, which were selected from among 211 entries from 76 artists submitted for this year's show. The Ernie Miller Nature Center is located at 909 N. Kansas 7 Highway in Olathe. The artwork in the exhibit features two-dimensional and wall-mounted art and includes paintings, ceramics, pottery and weaving. All of the pieces are available for purchase.
There is no admission charge to the exhibit which will be open for public viewing during the Nature Center’s regular hours: 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. Art Fest 2006 is sponsored by Columbian Bank and the Johnson County Park and Recreation District.
