|Backyard Birdwatchers' Breakfast is Oct. 7 at Shawnee Mission Park|
Join a park ranger for breakfast and a morning of birdwatching in Shawnee Mission Park on Saturday, Oct. 7.
The annual Backyard Birdwatchers Breakfast is presented by the Johnson County Park and Recreation District and is for ages 16 and older or children accompanied by an adult.
The group will meet at Shawnee Mission Park's John Barkley Visitors Center for a pancake breakfast followed by a van tour of the park. The Visitors Center is located at the entrance to the park at 7900 Renner Road, Shawnee.
Participants will visit a variety of prime birdwatching sites, including marshlands, woodlands, and prairies. Birds will be in their bright fall plumage and some migratory species should be passing through on their way south. Dress for the weather and bring binoculars and bird identification books. Search for the keyword "birding" to find this program in the JCPRD's Activities Catalog and online listings.
The two-and-one-half hour session will begin at 7:30 a.m. The cost for breakfast and the tour is $11 for Johnson County residents or $12 for nonresidents. Preregistration is required, as space is limited.
