2002 Overnight Fishing Dates Set for Shawnee Mission Park
POSTED: 01/29/2002

Four overnight fishing dates at Shawnee Mission Park Lake have been set for 2002.

During its Jan. 23 regular meeting, the Johnson County Park and Recreation District Board approved the following overnight fishing dates for the coming year: May 25, July 6, Aug. 3, Aug. 31.

The overnight fishing program was initiated in 2001 in response to requests from local fishermen and was considered very successful. In approving the dates for 2002, Board members asked officials to return during their Feb. 20 meeting with proposed dates for two new overnight fishing opportunities to be initiated at Heritage Park, 16050 Pflumm Road, Olathe.

On overnight fishing nights, the specified park will be open strictly for fishing only and park rangers will be on duty throughout the night. Fishing will be allowed from the bank or from watercraft. Before fishing, area anglers ages 16 to 64 will need to have a valid Kansas fishing license, a Johnson County Park and Recreation District fishing permit and all appropriate boat tags, if applicable.

For more information about the overnight fishing program, call Mike Ray, Superintendent of Park Safety & Interpretation, at (913) 438-7275 Voice, or (913) 831-3342 TDD.
