July 19 is initial entry deadline for sixth annual Olathe Medical Center Women's Triathlon
POSTED: 06/27/2013

July 19 is the initial entry deadline for the six-annual Olathe Medical Center Women's Triathlon, which will take place on Saturday, Sept. 14, at Kill Creek Park, 11670 Homestead Lane, Olathe.

The triathlon will begin at 8 a.m. and involves a 500-meter swim starting and ending at the park's beach, followed by a 10.6-mile bike consisting of a square loop on county roads to the east of Kill Creek Park, and three-mile run on park trails. This USA Triathlon-sanctioned event will be open to individuals, as well as to teams in family, friends, and club categories.

Started in 2008, the Olathe Medical Center Women's Triathlon is the first all-women's triathlon sanctioned by the United States of America Triathlon Committee in the state of Kansas, and is a special event of the Johnson County Park & Recreation District. It was recognized in 2009 as the Kansas Recreation and Park Association's Outstanding New Program. This event is limited to 450 participants and is expected to fill, so early registration is encouraged.

Until July 19, the cost is $65 for individuals and $90 for teams. After July 19 and until Aug. 29, the cost is $75 for individuals and $100 for teams. After Aug. 29, the cost is $85 for individuals and $110 for teams. For brochures and registration forms, go to www.sportkc.org. In addition, participants, including team members, must also be members of USA Triathlon. One-day memberships are $12 and annual memberships are $45. Forms are available at www.usatriathlon.org.

Following the Triathlon, sponsor Olathe Medical Center will provide “post-race” activities in the form of cholesterol/glucose screenings, blood pressure screenings, women’s health information, and rehabilitation information from 9 to 10:30 am.. The services and information will be free of charge. All participants, volunteers, family members, and friends are encouraged to take advantage of this health information provided by Olathe Medical Center. In addition, Chris Cakes will also be on-site providing pancakes. Pancakes will be free of charge for all participants and volunteers and $5 for spectators.
