Making a Difference program for pre- and young teens set for July 13
POSTED: 06/19/2013

If you need a way to start a discussion of sexuality with your pre-teen or young teenager, a new program being offered by the Johnson County Park & Recreation District in association with the Johnson County Health Department may be able to help.

This free program is called Making a Difference - Teen Pregnancy & STD Prevention Class and is for ages 11 to 13. This evidence-based program covers topics such as human sexuality, personal responsibility, decision making, self-esteem, peer pressure, and many others. Participants will receive lunch and dinner, water bottles, and a $10 gift card for completing this eight-hour program.

To find this program in the JCPRD’s Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under youth and then under fitness & health. In the catalog and when using the website’s advanced search, look for the keyword “wellness.”

Making a Difference consists of one eight-hour session and is free of charge. The program will take place beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday July 13 at the Johnson County Health Services Building, 11875 S. Sunset, Olathe.

To register for this program or for more information, contact Kimberly at (913) 477-8120 or at kimberly.herdon@jocogov.org.

A separate and free parent class is also available and will review what is covered in the teen class as well as help parents how to communicate with their kids about this tough topic. For more information about this program, use the contact information above.

The JCPRD's Activities catalog is available for pickup at all Johnson County Library branches. For updated program listings, see the District's website at www.jcprd.com.
