|“Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” and “The Lion King” to be shown at The Theatre in the Park during July|
“Chitty Chitty Bang Bang;” will be shown on July 9 and “The Lion King;” will be shown on July 23 as part of a new Movies in the Park program at the Johnson County Park & Recreation District’s The Theatre in the Park.
Through this program, a variety of films will be shown on a 40-foot screen on the theatre stage on eight nights of the summer when musical productions are not scheduled. Family favorite movies will run on every other Tuesday during the theatre’s regular season, and then switch to Saturday nights after the first week of August and present classic films, often as double- and triple-features. Both July films will begin at 8:45 p.m. and the cost is $1 per person.
Other movie nights in the series include: Aug. 6, “Singin’ in the Rain;” Aug. 17, a “Jurassic Park” double feature including “Jurassic Park” and “The Lost World;” Aug. 24 a “Lord of the Rings” triple feature including “The Fellowship of the Rings,” “The Two Towers,” and “The Return of the King” (which will go until 6:20 a.m. the next morning); and conclude on Aug. 31 with a James Bond double feature including “Goldfinger” and “the Spy Who Loved Me.” The Aug. 6 show begins at 8:45 p.m., while the remainder will begin at 8:30 p.m.
