|Trail closure at Heritage Park to take place starting June 17|
Portions of the loop trail around Heritage Park Lake will be closed for up to a month beginning Monday, June 17, Johnson County Park & Recreation District officials announced.
Closed will be an approximately one-quarter mile of pedestrian trail from the playground between shelters #2 and #3 on the lake's west side to the southwest corner of the main lake at Heritage Park, as well as a half-mile portion from Shelter #1 on the east side the lake north to the northern bridge near Shelter #5. This work could take until July 19 and is weather dependent.
These portions of trail are being removed by Reeked Brothers Construction and replaced by Updike Asphalt. The trail is also being widened from nine to 11 feet . Officials said this project represents the second of three phases through which the entire loop trail will be replaced over the next two years. The first phase took place in October 2012 and replaced about a half mile of trail on the northeast side of the lake, as well as two smaller sections near the park's marina.
Heritage Park is owned and operated by the Johnson County Park & Recreation District and is located at 1600 Pflumm Road, Olathe. Summer park hours are 5:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily .
