|KidFest Event Returning to Antioch Park on June 17|
Following a successful debut in 2005, the KidFest event will be back from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 17. This event is being presented by the Johnson County Park and Recreation District's Children's Service's Department and will take place at Antioch Park, 6501 Antioch, Merriam.
This event was first presented in 2005 as part of the District's year-long 50th anniversary celebration and was so successful the Children's Services Department decided to present it again this year.
Planned for this year's four-hour event are a variety of activity booths, including face and hair painting, ring and bean-bag tosses, tile painting, bead jewelry making, a cake walk, coloring on shirts, chalk art, crown and visor decorating, and more. These booths will be located near the recently-renovated Dodgetown playground and near Antioch Park's administration buildings and will be manned by staff from Children's Services' 24 afterschool and five preschool programs.
Also planned are: moon walks, a traveling zoo, a Build-It Workshop sponsored by Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse, a Kansas Speedway Pace Car, a fire truck from the City of Merriam, and an appearance by Kansas City T-Bones mascot Sizzle the Bull.
Admission will be $4 for a child's wristband and adults are free with a paid child's admission. Kids under two are free. Advance registration is not required for this event.
