|11th Annual In Step and In Shape Walk & Health Expo is May 24|
Join a celebration of good health and fitness for mature active adults when the Johnson County Park and Recreation District presents its 11th annual In Step and In Shape Walk and Health Expo on May 24.
Participants can walk their choice of 1.5 or 3 miles on the Mill Creek Streamway Park's scenic Gary L. Haller Trail, followed by the health screenings and expo. Lunch will be catered by Cinzetti’s Italian Market Restaurant and this year's speaker is Negro Leagues Baseball Player and Famous Kansas Citian Buck O'Neil!
A major change for this year's event is that all activities will take place within the Mid-America West Sports Complex, 20200 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, which means less driving for participants. The walk will begin at 8 a.m. near the softball fields, while the screenings and expo will take place starting at 9 a.m. in the Okun Fieldhouse. Nearly 20 businesses and agencies will be part of this year's screenings and expo, including several health-related agencies, senior tax preparation help, a bank, the city of Shawnee, and a piano and organ store. Lunch will start at 11 a.m., followed by Buck O'Neil at noon. Search for the keyword "walk" to find this program in the JCPRD's Activities Catalog and online listings.
The cost for this five-hour event is $10 per person, which includes lunch and a T-shirt. Preregistration is required.
The JCPRD's ACTIVITIES catalog, with information and a registration form, is available for pick-up at all Johnson County Library branches.
