|Stingrays Swim Team/KC Blazers Masters Swim Team Both Start June 1|
Separate swimming programs for ages five through 18 and for adults 18 and older are being offered by the Johnson County Park and Recreation District. The programs are the Stingrays Swim Team for youth and the Blazers Masters Swim Team for adults. Both will meet beginning June 1.
The Stingrays Swim Team is for youth of all ability levels. Swimmers ranging from novices to the highly-skilled and competitive-minded are invited to join. Beginners receive stroke instruction and work on fundamentals and conditioning in a low-pressure environment. As swimmers progress, they have the opportunity to advance to a more strenuous workout group. All swimmers have an opportunity to compete in swim meets. This is a great chance to get involved in a lifetime sport. The Stingrays meet Monday through Friday beginning June 1 at the Roeland Park Aquatic Center, 4843 Rosewood, Roeland Park. Ages 11 and up will meet at 9 a.m., while ages five to 10 will meet at 10 a.m. The cost for seven weeks of one -hour weekday practices is $70 for Johnson County residents or $77 for nonresidents. A second child from the same family can attend for $60 for Johnson County residents or $66 for nonresidents. Fees include all league fees, a swim cap, and a T-shirt. The only additional cost will be for a team swim suit. For more information about the Stingrays Swim Team, call Coach Lindsay Barton at (913) 236-1217.
The KC Blazers Masters Swimming team is based on the belief that swimming is a lifetime sport. Participants range from former Olympians to fitness swimmers who want something more organized and challenging than lap swimming. This includes former high school, college, and triathlete swimmers of all ability levels. Instruction in competitive strokes is available upon request. At the Prairie Village Pool, 77th and Mission Road, workouts are offered from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday. At the Roeland Park Aquatic Center, workouts are offered from 6 to 7 a.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday. June training sessions begin on June 1. A fee of $70 for Johnson County residents or $77 for nonresidents buys participants a punch card good for 15 90-minute swims per month. This fee is payable at the beginning of each month and includes an initial BlazerCap. Swimmers can also participate in individual training sessions for a drop-in fee of $5 per session.
