Two New Mad Science® Programs For Youth Offered in Mid-March
POSTED: 02/22/2006

Chemistry and robotics are topics to be covered during two new Mad Science® programs for youth being offered in mid-March by the Johnson County Park and Recreation District.

The programs are designed to make learning about scientific concepts fun and are called Mad Science® Robotics and Mad Science® Crazy Chemistry. Each program offers sessions at both the Tomahawk Recreation Complex, 17501 Midland Drive., Shawnee, and at the Roeland Park Community Center, 4843 Rosewood, Roeland Park. Search for the keyword "science" to find these programs in the JCPRD's Activities Catalog and online listings.

Mad Science® Robotics is for ages eight through 12. Participants will explore the fundamentals of robotics, learn about robot anatomy, and discover what robots are used for. The main attraction of this class is a chance to work with the latest state-of-the-art, full-functioning, fast-moving robots. Please note that this is not a robot building class. This program will be offered on March 13 at the Tomahawk Recreation Complex at 9 a.m. and at the Roeland Park Community Center beginning at 2 p.m. The cost for two three-hour sessions is $70 per person for Johnson County residents or $77 per person for nonresidents.

Mad Science® Crazy Chemistry is for ages seven through 12. Participants will discover how chemical reactions are everywhere and how to figure out if a chemical change has taken place. Students will mix, mush, and brew together different chemicals that they can use (or eat) in this fun, hands-on chemistry lab. This program will be offered on March 15 at the Tomahawk Recreation Complex at 9 a.m. and at the Roeland Park Community Center beginning at 2 p.m. The cost for two three-hour sessions $60 per person for Johnson County residents or $66 per person for nonresidents.

The JCPRD's ACTIVITIES catalog, with information and a registration form, is available for pick-up at all Johnson County Library branches. For more information or to register, call (913) 831-3359 VOICE or (913) 831-3342 TDD. To register online and for updated program listings, visit the District's website at www.jcprd.com
