|Johnson County artists to be honored at juried exhibition|
The works of 41 Johnson County artists will be showcased in the inaugural Johnson County Art Fest exhibit opening Sunday, November 6. The juried exhibition runs through November 20th at the Ernie Miller Nature Center located at 909 N. Kansas 7 Highway in Olathe.
Sponsored by Columbian Bank and the Johnson County Park and Recreation District, Johnson County Art Fest 2005 was open to all juried artists 21 years of age and older currently residing in Johnson County. More than 140 pieces were submitted for consideration.
The artwork in the exhibit features two-dimensional and wall-mounted art and includes paintings, ceramics, pottery and weaving. All of the pieces are available for purchase.
There is no admission charge to the exhibit which will be open for public viewing during the Nature Center's regular hours: 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. The nature center is closed on Monday.
Prizes and purchase awards for the show will total $2,500. This includes a Best of Show of $500, Second Prize of $300, and a Third Prize of $150. There will also be purchase awards totaling up to $1,500 for art that will hang in the Johnson County Park and Recreation District’s permanent collection.
Jurors for Art Fest 2005 are: Tom Dolphen, assisting managing Editor for Art and Design at the Kansas City Star; Mark Spencer, Creative Resource Manager at Hallmark Cards and former curator for the Albrecht-Kemper Museum, and Ellen Wolf, award-winning retired Art Educator and a current member of the Kansas/Missouri National Organization of Women in the Arts board.
