|JCPRD's Maasen Elected to NSPR Board|
Johnson County Park and Recreation District Planning and Development Manager Bill Maasen was recently elected to a three-year term on the Board of the National Society for Park Resources (NSPR).
"This was an opportunity to give back to the profession and to get involved in the highest level of the professional board governance," Maasen said of his election.
The 15-member board he was elected to is a branch of the National Recreation and Park Association representing NRPA members working in natural resources, parks, and conservation. Maasen was appointed to a unfinished term on the NSPR in 2004. His recent election was to a term which will expire in October 2008.
Maasen, who has been with the District since November 1986, holds bachelor's degree in forest management from the University of Missouri - Columbia, and a master's degree in public administration from the University of Kansas. His duties include land acquisition, and oversight of the District's planning and development department. During his time with the District, he has personally acquired about 6,000 acres in new park land. Maasen previously served as president of he Kansas Recreation and Park Association from 2003 through 2005.
