KANSAS CITY, MO (Aug. 17, 2005)— The Kansas City Symphony will present its 22nd Annual Labor Day Weekend concert—POPS IN THE PARK—on Sunday, Sept. 4, 2005 at Shawnee Mission Park’s The Theatre in the Park. The performance is FREE to audiences of all ages and will be led by the Symphony’s popular Resident Conductor Timothy
The fun begins at 6:30 p.m. when DJ Kirby from Mix 93.3 kicks off the evening’s entertainment. At 7:00 p.m., the orchestra takes the stage for a concert of crowd-pleasing light classics. The music concludes under the stars with a heart-pounding rendition of Sousa’s Stars and Stripes Forever.
Kids will enjoy the Symphony’s Instrument Petting Zoo, where trained musicians help youngsters try their hands at a variety of orchestral instruments. The Petting Zoo will be open from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. and again at intermission. In addition, park concessions will be available, but concert-goers are invited to bring picnic baskets and coolers along with their lawn chairs and blankets.
Each year, POPS IN THE PARK attracts thousands from around the metropolitan area and provides the opportunity to hear the Kansas City Symphony in a relaxed, outdoor setting. Media support is generously provided by Infinity Radio.
