|Roeland Park Aquatic Center to be Closed Sept. 6-29 for Painting, Dome Installation|
The Roeland Park Aquatic Center will be closed to the public for most of the month of September for painting of the pool and reinstallation of the air-supported dome which makes the facility's main pool usable during the winter months.
The Aquatics Center, located at 4843 Rosewood, Roeland Park, will be closed from Tuesday, Sept. 6 through Thursday Sept. 29. These plans are dependant on good weather and could be delayed by inclement conditions such as rain or wind.*
This will be the second time the pool has been fully repainted since it first opened in September 1997. The dome is reinstalled after Labor Day each year and remains in place over the main pool from September through mid-May, when it is taken down each year prior to Memorial Day to provide an open-air facility for the summer months. The fall reinstallation of the dome also signals the seasonal closure of some of the RPAC's outdoor facilities, including the youth pool, water slide, group slide, and vortex pool.
It takes 30 to 40 Johnson County Park and Recreation District employees to help handle the 6,800 pounds of vinyl-coated polyester-based fabric which makes up the dome. When inflated, the three-section structure measures 210 feet by 106 feet and has a capacity of approximately 22,260 square feet. Following reinstallation of the dome, other steps to be completed prior to opening include installation of the one- and three-meter diving boards, a drop slide, and interior lights for the dome.

The RPAC is owned by the City of Roeland Park and is operated by the Johnson County Park and Recreation District.
