Ernie Miller Park Amphitheater programs offered on June 7, 14, 21, & 28
POSTED: 05/15/2013

Bring the family to the Johnson County Park & Recreation District's Ernie Miller Park Amphitheater on Friday evenings during June for educational and entertaining programs. The programs last about 45 minutes and are designed for all ages. Programs begin at 7 p.m. A charge of $2.75 per person paid on-site helps cover the cost of the programs; children two and under are free. Preregistration is not required for these programs.

To find this program in the JCPRD’s Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under fun for all and then under special events. In the catalog and when using the website’s advanced search, look for the keywords “nature & outdoors.”

June presentations are:

June 7: Owls – Eyes of the Night - Great Horned, Barred and Screech owls make Ernie Miller Park their home. Join two live owls and us as we discover more about these creatures of the night.

June 14: Pirates and Parrots of Kansas - Shiver me timbers! Pirates and Parrots are invading Kansas! Come hear pirate stories and songs from Jackie and Clifton Bencke, and their parrots, Captain Flint and Mr. Gentry. Discover the native parrot that could have been the state bird, and learn how parrots influenced the Mayan culture, the stars, and were journaled about here by Lewis and Clark.

June 21: Snakes Alive - Why is it that these creatures seem so terrifying? Could all the stories you have heard about snakes be true? See Kansas snakes as we explore the facts and fallacies of these legless wonders of the natural world.

June 28: Bats! - Explore the dark and mysterious world of Kansas bats. Enjoy a summer evening learning about these amazing and misunderstood flying mammals. Discover how we benefit from them and how we can protect them. Live Egyptian fruit bats from the Kansas City Zoo will be featured.

Other amphitheater programs planned this summer include: Wildlife Who's Who, July 5; Birds of Prey, July 12; and Animal Tales, July 19. For more information on amphitheater programs, call (913) 764-7759.
