|Amelia's Atchison day trip set for June 27|
Learn about American aviation legend Amelia Earhart and other icons of Atchison, Kansas, during a late June day trip being planned by the 50 Plus Department of the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.
Amelia's Atchison is the name of this trip, which will take place on June 27. Participants will tour the house where Earhart was born and lived with her grandparents, and learn about the Ninety-Nines, an organization of women pilots the Earhart helped found, and who currently own the historic home. Stop at the Amelia Earhart Earthwork created by famed Kansas artist Stan Herd. View this one-acre portrait composed of plants, stone, and natural materials from a viewing platform. Visit Atchison's famous Nell Hills shop with three stories of housewares and gifts. See why this emporium of home decor has been featured in national publications and attracts customers from near and far. Lunch will be at Paolucci's Italian Restaurant & Deli on Atchison's South Third Street.
