|Second Annual Paws in the Park is June 18 at Heritage Park|
The Second-Annual Paws in the Park Dog Contest will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 18 in the Off-Leash Area at Heritage Park, 16455 Lackman Road, Olathe.
This fun-filled and family-oriented event gives interested parties an opportunity to bring their dogs and compete in contests such as Best Kisser, Best Dog Trick, Owner and Dog Look-Alike, Best-Dressed Dog, Ugliest Dog, Cutest Dog, and a Fashion Race. Organizers have tried to fashion the contests so that every dog will qualify in some category. Last's year's inaugural contest drew more than 150 people and over 30 dogs, and organizers expect numbers to increase this year.
The master of ceremonies for this year's event will be Radio Station 98.1 KUDL's Dina Michaels. Other planned activities include agility course and obedience demonstrations by Luv Dogs, a flying disc demonstration by Kansas City Disc Dogs, a vendors' tent featuring a variety of dog-related items, opportunities for dog adoptions, and much more. The first 50 dogs registered will receive goody bags, and there will be lots of prizes and giveaways. Paws in the Park is presented in partnership with the City of Olathe and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Animal Haven and the Olathe Animal Shelter. The entry cost for this four-hour event is $8 prior to June 18 or $10 on the day of the event.
