Registrations Now Being Taken for JCPRD's Art & Theater Day Camps

Registrations are now being taken for the Johnson County Park and Recreation District's Discovery Art and Theater day camps for children.

Discovery Art Camps for children ages nine to 12 encourages exploration of individual creativity through drawing, painting, sculpting and crafts. Participants should bring a spiral sketch pad and pencil to the first class. All other materials are provided. Camp meets from 9:30 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday on the patio of Building A, Antioch Park, 6501 Antioch, Merriam. Two different themes are offered. In Comic Book Heroes, June 13-16, participants will escape into the fantasy world of super heroes while learning about developing characters, frames, and story lines. In Animals, Animals, June 20-23, participants will use pencils, charcoal, paints, and all colors of paper to create their own animals. The cost for either week of four two and one-half -hour sessions is $70 per child for Johnson County residents or $77 per person for nonresidents. Theater Camp for ages 10-15 is designed to touch on the many aspects of theater, including movement, voice, and diction, script work, and staging. The camp session ends with participants performing a production of the melodrama comedy "Never Trust a City Slicker" for family and friends. Fee includes a camp T-shirt. Camp meets from 9:30 to noon Monday through Thursday for five weeks beginning June 13 at the Roeland Park Community Center, 4850 Rosewood, Roeland Park. The cost for 20 two and one-half -hour sessions is $185 per child for Johnson County residents or $204 per person for nonresidents.
