Free Swim and Dive-In Movie set for June 4 at RPAC
POSTED: 05/06/2005
The Roeland Park Aquatic Center (RPAC), 4843 Rosewood, Roeland Park, is planning two special events on June 4 to help celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Roeland Park Community Center, which is located within the same complex.

First, the RPAC will offer free swimming from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participants can ride the 120-foot water slide of the eight-foot group slide or just relax in the lazy river vortex pool. Normal admission costs for ages three through 49 is $6 for Johnson County residents or $6.50 for nonresidents, while admission for ages 50 and older is $5 for Johnson County residents or $5.50 for nonresidents. There is no cost for ages 2 and under.

The second event is a Dive-In Movie showing of a recent animation film on two giant screens from 8 to 10 p.m. Admission price for this event is $3 per person.

In January, 1985, the opening of the Roeland Park Community Center was the start of a unique partnership between the Johnson County Park and Recreation District, the City of Roeland Park, and Johnson County Agency on Human Services and Aging. The relationship between JCPRD and the city was continued and expanded in 1997 with the dedication and opening of the RPAC, which is owned by the City of Roeland Park and operated by the District.

A number of other activities are planned on June 4 to celebrate the community center's anniversary including: tours of the Roeland Park Sports Dome, live music, a moonwalk, bingo, and children’s art projects, the dedication of a new mural in the Multipurpose Room, and a photo exhibit titled "The Faces of Roeland Park Community Center."
